Drawing from my Dreams : Inspiration for a whole new collection

This is probably one of the weirdest and most exciting collections I have worked on as a full time artist. I am sure some artists can relate to getting inspiration for their art while dreaming. The hardest part is to capture it in my mind long enough after I wake up to recreate it on paper. And these dreams never return. It is impossible to get it back just stays very far away somewhere in the memory bank. Before I sound completely nuts, let’s get into it. Here’s some of the stuff I dreamt about. The illustrations I pictured was a couple of days in a row. As soon as I wake up I grab a sketchbook and sketch it on!

  • In my head I think of them as the triangle flowers. Each petal had a triangular build with a jagged edge on top of the petal forming a bit of a frill. I couldn’t wait to put this one down on paper. Develop it further. I ended up adding a little something to it by curving the petals and giving it my favourite leaf motif.
  • This is the one I like to call purple roses. Yes I hear you, the roses are not very purple. However it had this striking purple background and the bold roses placed on it like a pattern just infinitely continuing like a surface pattern design.

The first floral motif that came to me, I instagrammed it as soon as I was done with it @tealpalette. With a caption saying ‘sneak peak ‘ and ‘I woke up dreaming of this floral image.’ Then I just kept dreaming of more images regularly and kept sketching it down. Some with specific colour palettes, like the ‘Purple Roses’ and this blue and white mystery below.

This probably proves that I am feeding my subconscious by over thinking and at the same time admiring florals more than I should, at a healthy level. Especially in hunting other artists amazing work. For example the mural of the Poppies by Georgia O’keeffe is something that can take my breath away. I don’t really know what is bringing on this newly found inspiration of mine. But I sure am glad it’s happening. Await this collection of dreamy florals. I already wanna call it ‘Dreams Beyond.’

Very quirky pair looks something like Daisies

My goal with this project is to use the concepts I have mentioned above as a foundation and incorporate it in each piece of artwork in the collection. I will keep you posted when this collection is complete, looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun! Until then let me go back to dreaming.
