Sharing the story behind this very special collection…
I am thrilled to share with you my most recent Art commission done in collaboration with the Dutch Burgher Union of Colombo (the D.B.U). I was deeply humbled and honoured to take on this project. The idea of having my art displayed on the walls of this beautiful vintage building, just felt complete. To be honest this project has been a true labour of love. Each powder room carries one original piece. The hope was to bring in vibrance and life to this space with an extensive collection of meaningful florals.

“The idea of having my Art on the walls of this beautiful vintage building, just felt complete. “
The form and style carried through this whole collection are abstract loose florals simply wet brushed onto canvas. Predominantly using watercolour, along with other mixed media as well, to blur the lines between dreamy abstraction and classic allure. The focal point lies in the paintings placed in the V.O.C cafe of the D.B.U., (displayed in the powder rooms). The heart of the composition pays homage to the iconic tulip, deeply intertwined with the Dutch culture. The vibrant blooms dance across the canvas, their petals unfurling in a kaleidoscope of colours. The orange hues give a subtle nod to the rich colonial legacy of the D.B.U. The colour Orange goes back to the Dutch royal family of house of Orange Nassau, the reigning house of the Netherlands. The overall style and movement for the whole collection is a form of modern abstraction against the backdrop of the building’s historic grandeur.

It is my hope that the paintings remain a reminder that even in the midst of change, the essence of heritage remains etched in the motif and colours of the canvas, waiting to be rediscovered and celebrated anew. It has been a privilege to contribute in my own small way to this iconic building’s legacy. I invite you all to visit and immerse yourselves in the abstract floral world.
