The start of 2024 had me in a new spirit and I was ready to venture into new art forms to try and test out. As usual right after a rise of spirits next is a slight decline to ‘where do I begin?’ So to pick up the momentum I started experimenting with a few things. The Artwork was small in size, because I was sampling. That’s when I got it. I felt perfectly still and the Art came out of me. These ornaments are my this year’s story of love.
I have shared my thoughts on this blog before about innovating Art to be a part of everyday life. In a form that can easily move around, be gifted and shared. These ornaments are petite. What I personally love about it, is simply that it fits in the palm of my hand. To have this access to escape into the Art world that easily. It too has a spirit of just wanting to be held.

I felt I was on the right track when I was searching for the surface and medium to start this year with. I discovered these beautiful wooden ornaments ready to be painted on. The minute I felt that smooth finish I couldn’t wait to put some colour on it. These Eggs and the Angels are Acrylic on wood. The beauty of the pigment itself is that it bonds with wood and just blends into the surface. In a perfect matte finish. Once the painting is complete I follow it up with a sealing fixative. I use two different fixatives to have the level of shine I choose to finish the ornaments with. The Angels have a subtle shine and the fixative adds a contrast to the motif. The Eggs are taking on a more ceramic look like a faberge egg. Again the finishing look of it had me overjoyed.

Primarily I do recommend the purpose of these ornaments to be a sentimental gift very close to the heart. Me personally, I would love to showcase them on a mantle or a coffee table in a glass box. They are pretty enough to steal the show. Yes! You are thinking Easter the minute you see them. However, these forever ornaments can put on a show all year round. They have enough joy stored up just for that purpose and I promise they won’t run out. Each egg carries a very special name. This was a favorite stage of the process, naming them: Rose, Lily, Lavender, Magnolia and Lilac (clockwise from the top).

Enjoy and be inspired this Easter.
