Getting an original done as a digitised edition.

The Digitised Edition

How great is it to have a hand painted original piece of artwork with all the benefits of a digital painting? This commissioned pet portrait got me started. This is the first painting I created to be a digitised edition.

The world of Art is constantly evolving, and the rise of digital technology has opened up new opportunities for Artists to create and share their work. One such opportunity is the ability to digitize original artwork, making it accessible to a wider audience through online platforms.

I have been humouring the concept since the year 2020. For the first time when the world experienced unexpected freight and shipping delays. Problems with material distribution, lack of availability of supplies. I couldn’t help thinking what if I digitise my originals, wouldn’t it just solve all these problems? My customers can get their Art instantly. Preserving and discoloration wouldn’t be an issue. Best of all the Art can stand the test of time.

What are digitised editions?

Digitised editions create scarcity and exclusivity around a particular piece of artwork. Rather than creating an unlimited number of prints or reproductions, a digitised edition is a pair two limited editions made from the original artwork. The number of prints in the edition is determined in advance, and each print is numbered by me the artist.

Why create limited editions of digitised original artwork? There are several reasons why an Artist might choose to create limited digitised editions of their original artwork:

1. Scarcity: By limiting the number of prints available, you create a sense of exclusivity and scarcity around your artwork, which can increase its perceived value.

2. Authenticity: Each print in a limited edition is signed and numbered by the artist, providing a sense of authenticity and provenance that can increase its value. My digitised edition comes with a certificate of authenticity.

3. Collectability: Collectors often seek out limited editions as a way to build a collection of artwork that is rare and unique.

How to create your digitised edition?

Creating digitised editions of original artwork is relatively simple. Here are the steps you can follow:

1. Choose and order the artwork you want to digitise and ask me to create a high-quality digital file.

2. Determine the size of the edition.

3. Print on high-quality archival paper or canvas.

4. Display as you like framed or otherwise. Keep in mind for digital display tv screens and digital frames work really well too!

In conclusion…

Creating limited editions of digitised original artwork can be a great way to increase the value and collectability of your artwork while generating additional revenue. You can create a sense of exclusivity and authenticity around your artwork, making it more attractive to collectors and art enthusiasts. As the world of art continues to evolve, it’s important to stay up-to-date with new technologies and opportunities, and creating digitised editions of your original Art is one way to do just that.
